Studies show significant evidence that employment experiences can have both positive and negative effects on an individual’s health and well-being. This is central to the study and is a key factor in determining how firms can attain competitive advantage and ethical work practices. Role conflict, ambiguity, and self-regulation of the role have employee psychological effects such as skill development, professional development, and social overwork. Personalities such as support, commitment, job satisfaction, and health are often associated with results. (Albrecht, 2012).

Employee well-being

All aspects of working life, from the physical environment’s quality and safety to how employees feel about their jobs, their working environment, the workplace climate, and work organization. The goal of occupational well-being measures is to supplement OSH measures by ensuring that employees are safe, healthy, contented, and engaged at work.

When people are happy with what they do, when they are happy with how they are treated and how they treat others, they are happy with their work. Employee well-being is determined by the quality of service life offered by their employers, including the feelings of satisfaction and enjoyment that arise from work and the work environment.

Reasons for concern

There are three reasons why companies should be concerned about their employees’ well-being.

01.)            Employers have a duty of care – Employers have a responsibility to try to take care of their employees in a socially responsible manner.

02.)            Employers are in charge of fostering a positive work environment – not simply because it is their responsibility. As part of the overall reward system.

03.)            Best place to work – It is in the employers’ best interests to do so. As a result, their employees are more likely to be committed to the company and assist in its promotion as a “great place to work.”

Employee well-being benefits both the individual and the company. Promoting well-being may help individuals and organizations succeed by reducing stress and creating happy working environments. Employee engagement and organizational performance can be aided by good health and well-being.

The essential elements of employees’ well-being

  •   Health and Safety
  • Job design factors
  • Creating a satisfactory work environment
  • Managing stress
  • Work-life balance

Conclusion

Feelings of well-being are critical to an individual’s overall health, as they enable them to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals in life.
